The Salina Intermediate Technology Team graduated from the ATA academy in 2000 and was recognized by the ATA evaluators as a top school that is using best practices in Technology Education. The Salina Technology Team has presented at the MACUL conference the past eight years and we have also presented at the NCA conference, National Middle School Association (NMSA) conference, Michigan ASCD middle school summit and the Arkansas Literacy conference. The Salina Technology team is led by the Principal Glenn Maleyko and teacher Robert Attee. Both received a 2004 TAPS award. Bob Attee received the WCRESA technology integration award in 2005. In 2004 one of their team members Nadra Shami received the COATT award.

Creating a Cultural Shift: A Comprehensive Literacy Design for English Language Learners, Arkansas Literacy Conference, October 2007 ___________________________________ Team collaboration and common planning time for teachers are essential components of the Salina Intermediate school program that integrates literacy across the curriculum. The purpose of this presentation is to present data and the school plan to demonstrate how the establishment of the Partnerships in Comprehensive Literacy (PCL) model and Professional Learning Community (PLC) support the enhancement of the school improvement process.

Meet Salina's Technology Team Members
Bob Attee and Glenn Maleyko have teamed up to receive numerous grants including the Next Day Governor's grant, Career Grant, Foundation Grant, and MACUL Grant. They were graduates of the ATA Academy and received recognition for outstanding efforts in the integration of technology across the curriculum. Bob was nominated for the Dearborn Teacher of the Year Award and he received the Wayne County RESA Technology Integration leadership award. Glenn was nominated for the MACUL Outstanding Educator Award. In 2004 they each won a Technology Authentic Problem Solving (TAPS) award given by Michigan State University and MACUL. They are five time presenters at the MACUL conference and have worked together for fours years in partnership to enhance the delivery of technology for Salina students. They have recently teamed up with Dearborn Public Schools to develop and coordinate technology professional development camps that service teachers within Dearborn and across the state of Michigan.
Nadra Shami is the Literacy-Technology specialist at Salina. She completed the Instructional Technology Masters program at Wayne State University. She has also earned a second Masters with an ESL endorsement. Her responsibilities include the coordination of an Integrated Technology Program among the fourth and fifth grade students and the acceptance of responsibilities as the school web master. In 2004, Nadra received a state award from the Consortium of Outstanding Achievement in Teaching with Technology (COATT) for the creation of a website that showcases a technology-enriched curriculum based on state and national educational technology standards.
Amal Awad-Jumah has been an elementary classroom teacher for 15 years and is currently a computer-technology lab teacher for elementary and middle school students. She has conducted many technology-based training sessions for teachers and was also a presenter at Salina’s Technology Camp in 2004. Amal has participated in the MITTEN Program at the University of Michigan for two consecutive semesters. She has also developed two valuable web sites for teachers. One site is a weather/seasons unit and the other site is an electricity/magnetism unit.
Kareem Naimi is Salina Intermediate’s resource teacher. He joined our team in the 2004/2005 school year. He began his technology quest in 2000 and has aggressively explored advanced facets of educational technology ever since. Mr. Naimi was recently invited to present at the district level about integrating technology into the classroom. He continually attends technology training and eagerly shares with Salina staff during meetings/in-services. Mr. Naimi is seeking a specialist degree in instructional technology at Wayne State University.
Abdulnasser Ahmed is a Foreign Language Teacher/Intervention Specialist. He is one of the first teachers in the state to earn the Technology Endorsement (NR) with a Specialist Degree in Instructional Technology. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Bilingual/Bicultural Education with a Bilingual Endorsement (YK). Currently, he is working on a second Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision. He is an active member of the Technology Team at Salina Intermediate, who is always eager to share his technology expertise with his colleagues. He is now administering a computer-based reading program called SuccessMaker and continues to present in Salina Technology Camp.
