Salina was named one of the top eight schools in Michigan that
are using Best Practices in Technology Integration.
A team of Professors from the Ameritech Academy, Eastern Michigan
University, and Wayne State University visited Salina in May of
2001. They completed a two-day case study on the successes of the
Salina Technology Program. Salina was one of the first graduates of
the ATA Academy. Since then we have provided technology
professional development for teachers at Salina, Dearborn, and
other districts in the State of Michigan.
Technology is integrated across the curriculum. Salina's computer labs and classroom computers have ethernet or wireless network capabilities. The Salina multimedia program provides for higher order thinking skills and an integration of technology throughout the curriculum. Some of the software programs that Salina uses includes MS office with power point, Media Blender, Image Blender, MS Studio with Dreamweaver, I Movie, I DVD, Internet Explorer, Safari, Inspiration, and Kidspiration.

The technology team at Salina Intermediate built a Multimedia Presentation facility during the 1999-2000 school. The Next Day Governor's Grant in Technology Integration, the DPS career grant, Title One grant, Foundation Grant, and the Salina theme school program have provided the resources to build this lab. Since that time Salina has implemented and operated numerous technology professional development camps that has aided in the expansion of the technology infrastrucutre at Salina Intermediate. The Title Three Technology Professional Development Grant has allowed the school to install multimedia systems in numerous classroom which include a data projector, document camera and access to the Dukane closed circuit television network. Salina has also expanded the technology infrastructure which includes but is not limited to the following:
Salina has a total of eight computer laboratories. Four of the laboratories are mobile and four are permanent rooms. Salina uses both PC and Macintosh platforms to provide the most comprehensive technology experiences for our students.
In February 2005, Salina Intermediate received an award for using the Dukane system to broadcast the Student Council Debate. The Student council program at Salina is very comprehensive and intensive. It includes a campaign period with debate, election period using the City Clerk's voting technology, inauguration, a State of the School address and regular scheduled joint congressional sessions.
Salina Intermediate is implementing a multimedia curriculum to give middle school students in grades seven and eight additional technology opportunities. Salina is also piloting a media broadcast journalism curriculum.
Salina received the ATA grant for the 2000-2001 school year. The Academy has provided support in the area of staff development. This support has aided in our efforts to integrated technology across the curriculum in all grade levels. Glenn Maleyko the Science & Technology chairperson , Bob Attee the Science & Technology Resource teacher, Mahmoud Abu-Rus a fifth grade science teacher and Nada Fouani the former Assistant principal, made the trip to Marquette, Michigan in July of 2000 to receive training from the following Organizations: You can click on one of the technology links below.
