This year’s theme for March Reading Month is “Oh the Places You’ll Go!” We will engage students in fun activities that will encourage a love of reading and at the same time stimulate them in thinking about what road they may want to take in their lives, where they may want to “go”. Wherever they may want to go, reading can take them there! They can travel in their minds to anywhere a book takes them, the possibilities are limitless. Reading can also take them there by providing them with benefits such as increased comprehension and fluency, improved writing skills, and an expanded vocabulary. This will lead them to greater success in school, which in turn can lead them to a brighter academic future. We want our students to imagine the places they’ll go when they are consistently engaged in reading. We encourage our families to support us by making sure each child is reading a half hour a day, everyday. We look forward to parents visiting our school to read to our students and having fun with us on Bingo Night which is planned for March 17th from 3:30-5:00. Thank you for your continued support!

Welcome to “March is Reading” month at Salina Intermediate. We have many exciting reading activities planned this month. Please join us at Bingo For Books on March 17, 2016 at 3:30. Bring your family and play a few games of Bingo and win books. This is a wonderful event for the entire family!
Students should also celebrate reading each evening by reading for 30 minutes with an adult. Parents, make it a point to read with your children and discuss the book, article or magazine. Students can even use their computer and read their good fit books online.

Beginning on Monday, Feb. 8, residents of Dearborn and Melvindale can call to have the Fire Department install free smoke alarms at their homes.
Funded through a competitive federal grant, the program provides the free installation of the free alarms to any owner-occupied household, regardless of income. They cannot be installed in rental properties. They will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
For safety reasons, the free alarms must be installed by the department or its community partners, and so an appointment must be scheduled.

Our Salina Scientists worked hard in preparation for their experiment in the annual Science Fair that was held February 4, 2016. The Fair was open to all students in 6th, 7th, and 8th.
The participating students were to develop a problem statement or question they wanted to answer, then conduct the research on that problem, collect the data and develop a conclusion. They used a display board to tell the story of their project and were to prepare a final written report. Finally, the projects were reviewed by judges. These judges interviewed the students, giving them the opportunity to explain their projects and the work they performed. Thank you to Ms. Muhsin, Ms. Hussein, Ms. Baydoun, and Ms. Abdelbaki for your hard work in organizing the fair:
