I am the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Michigan Child Protection Registry, which is a state registry under our Secretary of State dedicated to stopping minors, parents and schools from receiving any solicitations from gambling, cigarette, alcohol and pornography companies. It’s like the federal Do Not Call list, but it includes cell phone numbers, email and IM addresses. Attached is a copy of Superintendent Flanagan’s memo, some FAQs, an example of what other schools have put in their parent newsletter and an icon you can use to link our website to your school’s resource/parent page.
There are just three very simple steps that will help get the word out about this Registry to your staff and parents. The most important step is to include the blurb I’ve attached in your next parent newsletter. And then if you haven’t already done so in the past, please register your district’s domain at www.ProtectMiChild.com and include our web address and information somewhere on your website.
I can’t stress enough how important this Registry is in helping to keep our kids safe while online or using cell phones. Please let me know if your district can help or if you have any questions or need additional information. Thank you so much and have a great day!
