Students at Salina Intermediate participated in a student council project to collect more than 2,000 non-perishable food items for families across metro Detroit. Students council students in both elementary and middle school, along with staff, gave up their Saturday to deliver the food and also serve meals at the Muslim Community Center Soup Kitchen in Detroit. Staff and students said it was a great feeling to not only collect the food items, but to see the process of who the food helps out during difficult times.
Hunger has no season so Salina’s Student Council will be doing this again in the spring and will include a clothing and book drive, as well.
