Welcome Back Letter:
Sept. 4, 2016
Dear Salina Intermediate Parent/Guardian,
Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year! We hope that you enjoyed the summer break with your family and friends. I would like to congratulate Mr. Khalid Abdulla, the new Assistant Principal at Edsel Ford High School. In addition, I would like to congratulate Mr. Kaid Omar as our new Assistant Principal at Salina Intermediate School. I am confident he will do a great job!
We are proud to have the A.V.I.D. Program at Salina Intermediate for the second year. We have expanded the program this year to include 7th and 8th grade students. Mrs. Eman Ahmed and Mrs. Anna Centi will be teaching the A.V.I.D. Elective classes. If you would like more information about A.V.I.D., please contact our wonderful A.V.I.D. Coordinator, Mr. Samir Dakhallah at 313-827-6600. “A.V.I.D.’s Mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing students for college readiness and success in a global society.”
We are very excited to begin this school year. Many teachers have been preparing their classrooms and collaborating together since mid-August. This year, we will continue to work together as a professional learning community (PLC) and focus on the following goals:
- To increase student achievement.
- To maintain a positive school culture at Salina Intermediate School.
- Continue to analyze data to inform instruction for individual students in order to increase student achievement. (PLC model that focuses on student achievement and instruction.)
- Continue coordination between grade levels and schools on instructional rounds as a means to increase understanding and student achievement.
We are committed to creating a positive learning environment with your support. A strong partnership with the parents and the community will help our children receive the best education, and succeed. We look forward to seeing all parents participate in their child’s education during the 2016-2017 school year.
Remember, communication is key! We will communicate through monthly newsletters, our school web-site, Principal Lawera’s iblog, teacher iblogs, notes and robo-phone calls. Please remember to sign up for Parent Connect. Ask Ms. Sailani for more details in the main office. For specific questions, please call or stop by the main office between 7:30 – 4:30 daily. The office can be reached at 313-827-6600. Please remember to report your child’s absence in the event he/she will not be attending school.
Together, we will make this a great start to the school year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Jamel Lawera
