Salina Intermediate School

Week of April 24th, 2017

Dear Parents,

The spring NWEA testing window has opened for all students.  Please encourage your child to do well on this important assessment.  In addition, students in grades 5th and 8th will be finishing up their M-Step tests during the last week of April.  Thank you for making sure your child was on time to school during the testing window.

Remember, the M-Step testing window for grades 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th will be from May 1st– May 26th. Students in grades 3rd-8th will be taking the M-Step English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. In addition, Science for grades 4th and 7th and Social Studies for grades 5th and 8th.  Please contact Mr. Omar or Mr. Lawera in the main office if you have questions about leaving the country early during M-Step testing!  Administration will need to meet with those parents.

Thank you for all of the parents who attended April’s Parent Principal Forum meeting.  We had a great turn out and the parents were actively engaged with an Honor Roll activity.  This was a topic that was discussed during our last PTSA meeting.  Thank you for your feedback! Great job!

In April, Chief Haddad, William Ali, Mr. Lawera, some Salina staff members and many community group members met to discuss the traffic concerns around the Salina Campus.  Since then, there has been more police presence during dismissal to help enforce speeding laws, i.e., to make sure everyone is driving the speed limit.  Updating crosswalks and signs are also on the agenda to be updated in the near future.  Our goal is to make sure all students are safe.

Have a great week everyone!

Sincerely,

Mr. Lawera
