Salina Intermediate School

Re-scheduled: Diversity Day @ Salina Intermediate.

Greetings,

Please join us on Friday, May 12 from 3:30 – 6:30 for Diversity Day @ Salina Intermediate.  The description is written below by our Resource Teacher, Ms. Talukder:

“Diversity Day at Salina Intermediate celebrates the richness and beauty of various cultures around the world. This celebration begins in our social studies classes. Students study religion in 7th grade and global studies in 6th grade. This event was born out of a culminating activity for our units of study, so it has a strong academic foundation. Students research and create project boards for religions/countries and present them at the event. We also delve more deeply into the understanding of cultures by learning and performing songs, traditional dances from India, Dominican Republic, Africa, the Levant (Syria, Lebanon, etc), Yemen and American dances ( square dance  and urban). Students also enjoy creating various ethnic crafts. Religious and cultural artifacts are showcased and decorate the hallways, giving the school a museum feel. The whole community is invited and welcomed to join in the celebration of diversity, and recognition that there is beauty to be found in all cultures. Students and staff dress in traditional cultural clothes that school day then attend the event after school. It’s become a proud tradition at Salina Intermediate.”

Hope to see you there!
