Dear Salina Families,
As the start of the 2020-21 school year quickly approaches, we would like to welcome your family to Salina Intermediate School. During this past spring, our school community pulled together to make learning accessible for all students during the COVID-19 shutdown. Today, we still continue to move into uncharted territory and there will be changes in terms of how we operate following the recommendations from health professionals in order to stop the spread of COVID-19. The staff and I appreciate your patience, support and perseverance as we continue to work in partnership with your family to help all of our students learn the essential skills and standards of our curriculum. We will continue to work together to do what’s best for student’s safety, social and emotional wellbeing and academics.
Despite the changes and challenges we faced as a community this past spring, I hope you and your family have been able to have a safe and healthy summer and are excited about the return to Salina for the new school year. This year, every staff member in the district will be using the learning platform, Schoology to do everything school related and Zoom for live virtual meetings. Instruction for the year will be virtually live everyday and attendance will be taken. Student schedules will be available by August 28th. Please make sure to check your Parent/Student Connect to get them. Also, if you haven’t already, please check Parent Connect and update your information for this current school year. Since, we are beginning the year online, it is very important for us to have the correct information for you and your child.
For the week beginning August 31st-September 3rd, students will receive directions from their teacher directly or by email for what they will be working on independently. Starting September 8th, we are hoping that teachers will be able to meet with students during the live virtual times using Zoom. We will follow up with more specific directions as we get closer to those dates.
I am very proud to continue our school’s tradition of high expectations and excellence in education. Despite the changes we faced in the spring, we plan to build upon our success from last school year. Some of our points of Wildcat Pride from the past school year were the outstanding student growth in NWEA scores, Evergreen status as a Michigan Green School, competing at the state finals in Robotics, a new Theatre program, winning 1st place district city champs in boys basketball and academic games. By working together as a school community, we will continue to have a positive impact in the lives of students attending our school.
