Dear Dearborn Families!
For the upcoming school year, Gleaners Community Food Bank and the Dearborn Schools District continue partnering to bring food, education, and resources to children and families served by Salina Intermediate, Woodworth Middle, Oakman Elementary, and McDonald Elementary schools.
Nutrition knowledge, access to healthy food, and academic success are all linked – but Gleaners and the school district can’t do this work without parents and families! We are seeking your ideas and solutions to make sure kids and families are connected to food, knowledge, and opportunity. We call this effort the Parent Advisory Committee. Gleaners is seeking a representative group of parents and family members to make food and health a priority for all children and community members. Mothers who are engaged in this work and attend PAC meetings will be provided with a small token of recognition.
Parent Advisory members are encouraged to contribute to the following tasks:
∙ Attend PAC meetings throughout the school year. Meetings will take place 3-4 times during the school year and will last approximately one hour.
∙ Help to determine what additional resources families need to provide children with healthy food and information.
Our first meeting for Salina Elementary and Salina Intermediate will take place on Monday, October 23rd from 8:30 – 9:30 at Salina Intermediate cooking classroom (room 206).
∙ The topic for this session will be: HACK YOUR SNACK
o This session will share tips for saving time when buying and preparing healthy snacks, practice making healthy, homemade snacks, reading food labels, and identifying healthier choices when choosing prepackaged snacks, and practice comparing unit prices to save money.

سيعقد اجتماعنا الأول لمدرستي سالينا الابتدائية والمتوسطة يوم الاثنين 23 أكتوبر من الساعة 8:30 إلى 9:30 في غرفة الطبخ (207) في سالينا المتوسطة.

ستشارك هذه الجلسة نصائح لتوفير الوقت عند شراء وإعداد وجبات خفيفة صحية، وممارسة صنع وجبات خفيفة صحية محلية الصنع ، وقراءة ملصقات الطعام، وتحديد الخيارات الصحية عند اختيار الوجبات الخفيفة المعبأة مسبقا، وممارسة مقارنة أسعار الوحدات لتوفير المال.
