Salina Intermediate School

South Dearborn Incident

October 3, 2024

Greetings Salina Community,

In our continuing efforts to provide accurate information, We want to share this brief message regarding a photo circulating on social media.

This morning, we were made aware of a photo being shared in the community of two people walking around the neighborhood dressed in camouflage clothing and carrying what appeared to be a weapon, possibly a rifle.

We contacted Dearborn Police and had our School Resource Officer do further investigation. They found out the two people were juveniles, and the weapons they were carrying were not real.  There was no threat to the neighborhood or our school.

With all the terrible events in the Middle East, we are all in a heightened state of awareness and concern when we hear or see something out of the ordinary in our community.  Once again, we are very fortunate that this was not any type of threat and nothing more than a couple of young kids with toys.

We sincerely thank the School Resource Officers and the Dearborn Police for their swift response. I also want to acknowledge the vigilance of our community members, whose quick reporting of the incident was instrumental in resolving the situation. Together, we can ensure the safety of our school.

At Salina, we are unwavering in our dedication to the safety and well-being of our students. By fostering open communication with our parents and working together, we can continue to uphold our school as a safe haven for everyone.

Regards,

Mrs. Eman Ahmed       Mrs. Susan Stanley
